Many times, those of us who become estheticians do so not only because we have the desire to heal skin, but also because we are interested in helping people’s well-being too. The beauty of being a skin therapist is that you not only see results in a person’s outward appearance, but you can really be a force in their inner self, thanks to the power of touch. Some estheticians will take this holistic approach a step further, and delve into the world of chakra balancing.
Our 7 chakras in our body are energy points in our bodies in which energy flows through. It is often said that chakras “spin” in our bodies, and when they are blocked, stagnant, it’s like the gears in a clock being out of working order. The clock will start to loose time, and eventually, stop working. Blocked energy can result in feeling out-of-sorts, sluggishness, cloudy thinking, and illness. If your chakras are too open or spinning in the wrong direction, it can make you feel anxious, spacey, or quick to anger.
Each Chakra is associated with a color, a location on the body, and a different emotional issue. There are also different crystals, notes, and activities you can do to assist in clearing or balancing each chakra.
The Root Chakra is at the base of the spine, and is red. It is associated with financial independence, money and food, and represents the feeling of being grounded.
The Sacral Chakra is inside the lower abdomen. It’s orange or amber, and centers on our ability to connect with others and with new experiences. It affects our well-being, pleasure, and sexuality.
The Solar Plexus Chakra is right between the connection of the ribs, at the upper stomach. It relates to our ability to feel confident and in control of our lives. The color associated with this chakra is yellow.
The Heart Chakra is (you guessed it!) located above the heart. It connects us with our ability to love, joy, and inner peace. Colors are pink and green.
Our ability to communicate is centered in the throat chakra, located at the throat. Blue is the color of the throat chakra, and it also affects our ability to speak up for ourselves and to communicate the truth.
Moving up onto the face is the Third Eye Chakra, located between the eyebrows. This chakra is indigo, and correlates with our intuition, imagination, and ability to make decisions.
At the crown of the head is the Crown Chakra, and it represents our ability to connect with our spirituality or to a higher power, and with pure bliss. This chakra is represented by all things purple.
To heal your chakras, meditation and deep breathing are always good balancing activities, but wearing or looking at certain colors, music and different stones can also help you to align your chakras. Try some deep breathing while focusing on each chakra, and see how you feel after!
