Recently, Skinworks School of Advanced Skincare partnered with Taylor Andrews Academy of Hair Design to provide students with an opportunity to see the other side of the industry that they are all studying to join as professionals.

It was awesome.

Over the course of a week students from Taylor Andrews were invited to visit the Skinworks campus in South Salt Lake to learn about the facility, available programs/curriculum, our student experience, and the best part is they all got a free service! And they weren’t the only ones, our students also visited the Taylor Andrews campus and learned about the world of cosmetology and hair design while they were treated to a deep condition and blow-out by Taylor Andrews students.

The Skinworks Student Exchange isn’t a new program, rather a facet of our education that we consider vital to our students’ success.

Why We Do It

The answer is simple, to provide our students with perspective and exposure to not only the wide variety of opportunities available to them as licensed beauty professionals; but also to facilitate conversations with other aspiring professionals through community networking. Skinworks is prided on the unique preparedness of our students when they leave our supervision and become licensed.

It may seem like some pretty run- of-the-mill stuff, but in reality this interaction between students is exactly the kind of exposure that helps students to truly grow and progress. Lexi Hayes, a Taylor Andrews student, said that her experience at Skinworks was eye-opening. “I would have had no idea that I was inside of a school” Hayes said “everything is so calm relaxing. Until the end of my treatment I had forgotten that I was with a fellow student,” she said.

Hayes received a European facial, and said that it was one of the most relaxing experiences. “The student who performed my service was fantastic, she waited until the end to go into greater details on the product and let me relax during my facial,” Hayes said, adding that her student was very good about communicating throughout the whole process.

Hayes will graduate from Taylor Andrews at the end of July and plans to work in the salon that she has been working in as a receptionist, except now she will be the one behind the chair! Follow her on Instagram @blondefox_beauty
Throughout her time at Taylor Andrews, Hayes has grown to specialize Bridal Makeup and Styling and said that she has begun referring her clients to Skinworks for their esthetics needs in preparation for their big day! “Overall I would rate this whole experience 10-out-of-10” said Hayes “It helped me to see how truly dedicated both of these schools are to their students. We aren’t just numbers to them, and they really want to help us along in our journeys.”
Skinworks student Morgan Neibar’s feelings about the exchange echoed Haye’s comments. “Our schools offer different programs but this experience allowed us to network and learn from other students who will eventually be other professionals in the same industry,” said Neibar.
Neibar also said that the benefits from this exchange are already taking shape for her professionally as she models and through this exchange made plans to collaborate with some Taylor Andrews students on future work.
“They encouraged to do the Master Esthetics program so that I could pursue the passion I didn’t know I had” – Neibar
Neibar said that she originally chose to attend Skinworks because of the reputation of the Lash Extension program and had the intention of becoming a lash artist as a way to pay for nursing school; but as she progressed in the basic esthetics program she found that she was really interested in medical aesthetics.
“I’m still going to nursing school, except now when I become an RN, I will also have a Master Esthetician license and I can do botox and other medical treatments,” said Neibar. “My instructors were so supportive and encouraging when they found out what I was interested in and they encouraged me to do the ME program so that I could pursue the passion I didn’t know I had.”
