Can you clean your eyelash extensions? This is a common question from lash girls. If you have visited a lash artist to get eyelash extensions applied, chances are you’ve wondered how to best care for your new lashes. The answer is yes, you can clean your eyelash extensions. And we’re going to show you how!
The Cleanser
Remember, after your first application appointment you’ll want to wait 48 hours before getting your eyelash extensions wet for the first time. This helps ensure the glue is fully bonded to the lash for a good, long-lasting hold. After the 48 hours has passed, a good way to make your eyelash extensions last longer is to regularly wash them. Washing your lashes is a great way to get rid of all the makeup build up that could weigh the lashes down. Using a lash safe cleanser can help lashes last longer between fills. Our estheticians recommend using a lash specific cleanser every two to three days.
Here at Skinworks student spa* we use LashBomb products, and we love them. That’s why we recommend LashBomb Lash Splash Cleanser to our clients. If you don’t want to make the leap to buy a cleanser right now, you can always make your own! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Empty Foam Pump Soap Dispenser
- Tear Free Baby Shampoo
- Distilled Water
- Contact Lens Solution
This is a great, affordable option. We purchased all of these supplies for around $10.00.
You’ll want to mix one part baby shampoo and one part contact solution to two parts distilled water. Pour all ingredients into the foam pump dispenser and shake to mix. That’s it!
The Process
Whether you decide to make your own cleanser or purchase one, the process of using it is the same. You’ll want to use a clean eyeshadow brush. The brush doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive. Just make sure the bristles are soft so they don’t pull on or irritate your lashes as you brush them. Pump some of the cleanser onto your brush.
Use the brush to apply the cleanser to the lashes using soft, downward brushing motions. You will start to see the makeup coming off of your lashes. Use warm water to carefully rinse the area. Then pat dry, never rub or pull.
Do this cleanse every two to three days, and don’t use mascara or any oil-based makeup. Be sure to always wash your hands before touching your extensions. Book your fills for every two to three weeks for best results. Cleansing your lashes will help them not fall out as quickly.
After you’re done cleansing we recommend using LashBomb Explosive Growth Serum to help stimulate eyelash growth. This product can be used with lash extensions. If you’re looking to keep your eyelash extensions strong and sturdy, try LashBomb Keratin Infused Crystal Sealer. It will reduce breakage and create stronger, more flexible, curled extensions.
