We’re nearing the end of the journey with our Skin Goals blog series! We’ve already talked about oily, dry, and combination skin types, as well as how to take care of them. What does that leave us with? Normal skin! Some people may think that “normal skin” means that it’s skin you don’t have to maintain, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! If you’re still not sure what your skin type is, visit our first Skin Goals blog to find out!
What is Normal Skin?
Normal skin is defined as well-balanced skin with fine pores, healthy blood circulation, a soft & smooth texture, a uniform transparency, and free of blemishes. Sounds like a dream, right? Normal skin is not usually subject to dryness, but it does still produce oils, usually in the t-zone. Unlike combination or oily skin, however, the oil produced through normal skin is in moderation and aids in keeping the face well hydrated. Even though normal skin is often low-maintenance and looks great year round, there are still some ways to help your normal skin look even better.
Wear Sunscreen
Yes, this has been a recommendation for all of the skin types, but it is super important! Your skin will look better if it is healthier, and few things are worse for your skin than bad sunburns! If you’re concerned about sunscreen making your skin oilier, you can find a brand that is formulated to keep your skin vibrant and healthy. If you’re spending a lot of time outside, sunscreen shouldn’t be optional!
Exfoliate as Necessary
Regardless of what type of skin you have, skin dies and can pile up over time. You want to make sure you spend time exfoliating the accumulated gunk from your skin as necessary to keep it looking supple and peachy. Find something that is moderately gentle to your skin and hydrates lightly to keep your fresh layer of skin from becoming too oily. Exfoliation is also important because it can reduce the chance of blemishes developing.
Watch For Change
Normal skin can stay perky and perfect throughout your life, but many people find that their normal skin becomes drier as they age. Pay careful attention to your skin as it ages to make sure that the way you care for it is still the perfect routine for your needs. If your skin becomes drier in places, consider using additional moisturizing products to keep it healthy. Your skin has to last your whole life, so take good care of it as you age!
