If you already have a skincare routine that is working for you, it’s not necessary to completely overhaul what’s already working with something completely new. If you’re new to good skincare practices, you also won’t want to jump into a full routine too quickly. You’ll want to observe and see how your skin reacts to certain products, ingredients, and brands. No matter where you’re at on the scale of skincare expertise, there are ways that we can all take better care of our skin! If you want more information on how to take care of your specific skin type, check out our article on skin goals.
If you have any questions about your skincare, you can schedule an appointment to visit with our estheticians when available. They can discuss different ways you can better take care of your skin and offer you different services that can help you improve what you’ve already implemented.
Sunscreen Is Your Best Friend
It’s always a good idea to use SPF on your face. Incorporating this into your routine can help protect you from damaging rays from the sun, prevent aging, keep your complexion even, and reduce the risk of skin cancer.
Overall, your skin is going to be happier and healthier if you incorporate daily SPF of 15 or 30 into your routine.
Clean Your Beauty Tools and Products
It is critical that you make sure your makeup and beauty tools aren’t a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. Keeping those essentials clean from dead skin, dirt, and oils can make it so your skincare routine is more effective.
Makeup brushes and applicators should be washed frequently with a gentle cleanser and water. Most makeup products can be kept clean by lightly spritzing with isopropyl alcohol.
A lot of times people forget to throw out their old product as well. Make sure that your makeup and skincare products’ expiration date isn’t overdue. A handy tip is to take a look at the open jar icon on the bottom or side of your product container. There should be a number shown on the inside of the jar icon, letting you know how many months you have to use it after opening before it expires.
Being able to incorporate clean tools and practices into your routine will not only help your skin stay more clean and clear from breakouts, but could protect you from ineffective products that could lead to inflammation, redness, bumps, rashes, and even blisters or swelling.
Incorporate a Quartz Roller
This is a newer trend to emerge but one that we love nonetheless. Typically, quartz rollers will come in jade, rose quartz, tourmaline, and amethyst. There are many reasons why this might be a great piece to add to your routine. When using a quartz roller, you could see some benefits such as these:
- Toning and tightening of facial muscles
- Decrease in wrinkles and puffiness
- Improved product absorption from your topical skincare regimen
- Better lymphatic drainage
- Increased circulation through stimulation of skin
- Tightened pores from the naturally cold stones
However, the general use of a facial roller is to help facilitate draining lymph (fluid) from the skin and muscle tissue. This will ultimately stimulate oxygen flow to the skin.
Use Witch Hazel
Another great addition to your skin routine could be witch hazel. It’s been used for centuries by Native Americans to help aid various skin ailments. With every new product that you try, you should always be careful with how your skin might react. Witch hazel has the potential to help with acne, inflammatory skin conditions, burns, and more!
Be Patient With Your Routine
Your skin is unique to you, so your routine should be too! You need to be patient when incorporating new skincare essentials. There’s no such thing as an instant fix either. If you really want to see the results of your hard work, you need to be patient and give it time. You can start seeing results through consistent use and you should try to use your product for at least six weeks for one or two times a day to notice a difference.
Sometimes it can be difficult to remember to take care of your skin every morning or evening. Don’t beat yourself up if you forget to wash your face every few days! It takes a lot of work, dedication, and patience to form a new habit, but it will be worth it to have clear and glowing skin once you can!
