With Halloween just around the corner, there are a few tips and tricks you may want to apply after putting up with all that costume makeup. Trick or Treat your skin with our after Halloween skincare guide. No matter how tired or sugared out you may feel the next day, it’s important to not ghost your skincare routine and be sure to pamper yourself. Here are 10 tricks to treat yourself and avoid scary skin post-Halloween!
1. Plenty of Sleep
Beauty rest couldn’t be more important before and after the spooky festivities. It’s a great time for your skin to repair itself and for blood to flow, leaving you with that healthy morning glow. We highly recommend getting 7-8 hours of sleep, since on Halloween you most likely are going to be up most of the night. If you are looking for a healthy glow just before or after the holiday, then be sure to get plenty of sleep.
2. Beware of Falling Asleep with Makeup On!
This should always be a rule, especially on Halloween when you are most likely wearing more makeup than ever. No matter how tired you are feeling that night, we highly recommend washing all your makeup off before going to sleep. It’s so important you clean off your face completely before bedtime. Costume makeup is inexpensive and heavier than normal makeup, so it’s best to not leave it on your face for too long. The cheap ingredients found in Halloween makeup can easily clog your pores and cause you to break out.
3. Wash Your Face
Use a foaming cleanser to be sure to eliminate any leftover makeup while being gentle on your skin. Oil cleaners are also great for deep cleansing and a perfect solution for costume makeup. For any leftover makeup, use a makeup remover wipe.
4. Apply Toner
Toners are a great way to remove any remaining dirt and impurities that can clog your pores. After cleansing your face, be sure to add a toner to your skincare routine. Halloween makeup can be heavy and carries a lot of ingredients that can cause your skin to break out. A toner can get the job done and have a positive effect on your skin’s appearance.
5. Give Yourself a Facial
Facials are a great way to pamper and restore your face back to that healthy glow. Visit your local esthetician for a professional facial after the holiday. Schedule an appointment with the Skinworks spa and check out our relaxing facials and advanced exfoliation services. All services provided by students are under the supervision of licensed professionals.
6. Prevent Dark Circles
With all those late night Halloween parties, you are more than likely to have dark circles under your eyes. There are a few tricks and ways to banish those dark circles, so you can look more refreshed the next day. Sometimes rest isn’t enough and it is better to use an under-eye treatment to reduce puffiness and dark circles.
7. Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is always a great way to keep your skin hydrated. Whether you plan on trying out holiday-themed cocktails on a ghouls night out or eating your kid’s Halloween candy, you are definitely going to want to drink plenty of water. Water is the best kind of medicine for your skin and a great way to keep it looking youthful.
8. Moisturize Your Skin
With all that makeup, your skin is going to be screaming for more moisture. Halloween makeup can definitely dry out your skin and make you feel like a desert mummy, but it’s nothing a little moisture can’t solve. Use a night moisturizer, so you can wake up with your skin feeling more refreshed.
9. Give Your Face a Break
Give your face time to breathe and a couple of days before using makeup again. Adding makeup the next day can really stress out your skin, especially if it isn’t used to wearing all that makeup. Makeup has a tendency to increase oil production and clog pores. If you notice your skin is more irritated since the festivities, then it is best to keep it makeup free until it completely restores back to its beautiful self.
10. Eat Healthy
There is nothing better than a cleanse after all those treats and sweets during the holiday season. As you eat more vegetables, protein, and fruit your skin is more likely to thank you. Be sure to add plenty of antioxidants to your diet. Antioxidants are great for protecting and healing your skin from damage and can also be found in a lot of skin care products.
