Eyebrow trends come and go, but regardless of which specific shapes are in style, it’s always essential to have a polished finish to make your eyebrows stand out. With the prevalence of 90s-inspired fashion back in vogue in 2022, thinner brow shapes are making a comeback. Unlike their thin and wispy 90s predecessors, however, today’s thin brows still maintain density and texture. Alternatively, you may still favor thick, arched brows as part of your modern look. With either style, you can achieve brows that are perfectly on point with Brow Wax + Tint services.
A Brow Wax + Tint will begin with waxing to sculpt your brows to the shape of your choosing, whether you want a high, dramatic arch or a slim and streamlined brow. Tinting adds volume and definition to the brows–it’s especially beneficial if you’ve over plucked or have naturally light hair. If you’ve never had a Brow Wax + Tint service before, you may have a few questions to ask your student esthetician before they get started. Here are some of the most common questions we hear about this service at the student spa at Skinworks School of Advanced Skincare.*
1. WILL THE DYE STAIN MY SKIN?
Eyebrow tint is designed to create a fuller look in the brows. It achieves this effect not only by semi-permanently coloring brow hairs but also by tinting the skin underneath the brows. Because the dye does easily tint the skin, it can cause unwanted staining if it’s not carefully applied. Therefore, your waxing specialist will take precautions to avoid spilling any dye onto surrounding areas like the forehead and eyelids. If a drop of tint does stray to an unwanted area, an oil-based makeup remover can help reduce staining.
2. WILL THE WAX OR TINT INTERACT WITH ANY MEDICATIONS I’M TAKING?
Most spas, salons, and waxing bars require that you disclose which topical and oral medications you are taking before your service. Sometimes medications used for acne or other skin conditions can react with the wax or tint. Be sure to disclose any medications or known skin conditions you have with your esthetician prior to your service, especially if you’ve had reactions to hair dye before.
3. HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?
There are two components to consider with your Brow Wax + Tint results: your hair growth and the retention of the hair dye. If your hair grows rapidly, you may need a follow-up waxing service before your next brow tint. A variety of factors will influence how long your tint will last, including your face washing regimen, but your waxer should be able to give you an average timeline for when your next appointment should be booked.
4. HOW DARK WILL MY BROWS BE?
Your waxer is trained to help you decide which tint will be best for your hair color and skin tone. They usually have a few different colors to choose from, so ask to take a look. Remember, the liquid tint usually looks a bit different than the dye on your brows. If possible, ask to see examples of the brows they have done before. It’s common for estheticians to keep a portfolio of before and after photos, so they can show future clients what to expect.
5. WHAT SHAPE IS RIGHT FOR MY FACE?
Just like hairstyles, brow shapes have a lot of variability, and not every shape is suited to every face. Figure out your personal face shape, and then take a look in a mirror with your waxing specialist and talk about the type of brows you’re looking to create. Many times, your natural brow shape will be the basis for your wax. If you’re looking for something different, talk to your waxer before they get going. You can always wax off more hair, but you can’t put it back on.
6. IS BROW TINTING SAFE?
Brow waxing has been a popular spa service for decades, and you may be more familiar with waxing than tinting heading into your appointment. While brow tinting is not without its risks, it is generally a safe procedure when performed under the supervision of licensed professionals. One of the biggest safety concerns for brow tinting is allergic reactions to the dye. If you’ve ever had an adverse reaction to hair dye before, brow tinting may not be right for you. Talk to your waxer about your safety concerns so that you can feel comfortable and confident with your service.
